Description

Benzoin resin, known as “monk’s balsam” (the main ingredient in an expectorant created by monks), has been used in smokings since ancient times.

Tibetan monks, Indian civilizations and Arab peoples have widely used Benzoin, which already circulated throughout Asia before reaching Europe and later Brazil. Benzoin, also called Benzoin of Siam or Sumatra, is a large wild perennial tree, native to Southeast Asia, belonging to the family Styracaceae. The Benzoin tree, from which the resin that produces the essential oil and Benzoin incense is extracted, is a powerful and majestic plant that can reach over 30 meters in height. It originated in Sumatra, in present-day Indonesia.

The resin is collected from cuts in the bark of the tree. When it is first cut, Benzoin is collected as a milky white substance, but as it is exposed to air and sunlight, the resin solidifies. It releases a sweet and slightly vanilla scent. Its sacred, disinfecting power has been celebrated since ancient times. From the caravan of the Magi, Benzoin remains an ally for destroying foul smells and diluting negative thinking.

As its resin burns for a long time and the pleasant aroma remains in the environment for long periods of time, it has always been incorporated in religious ceremonies. Buddhist and Hindu rituals have used the herb for centuries, perhaps millennia. Western religions have also embraced Benzoin, as well as Afro-Brazilian cultures: Benzoin is a favorite in terreiros and Umbanda centers in Brazil.

The therapeutic use of Benzoin incense has several benefits. It is primarily a liberator of negative energies trapped in the environment. It also enhances the power of the human mind and will. Therefore, Benzoin incense is widely used by traditional people in spell breaking rituals.

The force of joy and prosperity are also attracted by the woody aroma with soft touches of floral and vanilla of Benzoin incense, always very pleasant and consistent.

Benzoin is best known in the medicinal and pharmacological part. Even today, in the form of a tincture, Benzoin is inhaled with steam for relief from phlegm, laryngitis, bronchitis and upper respiratory tract disorders. Benzoin resin relieves nervous tension and headaches and thus facilitates intellectual concentration. It is fitting that it was regarded as a purifier of the surrounding atmosphere. It removes stuffy odors and, from a mental standpoint, sets the stage for discoveries based on clear, positive ideas.

On the psychic level, it is relaxing, soothing and anxiolytic.

In energy aromatherapy, benzoin resinoid is associated with the throat chakra or Vishuddhi.
Benzoin resinoid controls excessive emotions and brings calm. This helps you to express yourself better and regain confidence, as well as relieving tension.

How to use Benzoin resin

To benefit from the properties of Benzoin in purifying your crystals and your home, you will need liturgical or charcoal. The purpose of the charcoal is to allow the Benzoin resin to be burned continuously and safely at the same rate. After lighting the charcoal in a fireproof incense holder, let it burn until it starts to turn white. Then place just a few grains of Myrrh resin on top of the charcoal. Only one coal arrives.

Soak your crystals or crystal jewelry in the smoke that comes out of the resin. It purifies the energy of the crystals. You can also clear the energy of your space with Myrrh.
