About the Author
Sofan Chan was born and spent her formative years in Hong Kong, a place of great cultural diversity, high population density, and a fast pace of life. Her love of art led her to study advanced Western painting techniques at The School of Art Institute in Chicago, USA, before finally settling with her partner Rochman Reese in Australia.
Her paintings have a unique and easily recognizable style, full of vibrant and cheerful colors and flowing lines. They are the outward expression of her inner Buddhist nature and inspirations. Her oil paintings are original, and limited edition prints are proudly displayed in a wide variety of collections worldwide.
'Painting is a form of meditation for me. When I'm truly in tune with what I'm painting, inspiration begins to flow and the paint takes on a life of its own, effortlessly appearing on the canvas. In this artistic and meditative state, I love to focus on bringing forth feelings of love, happiness, and peace, using my artwork to build the invisible bridge back to our true nature.'
Sofan believes that the creative forces within us that make art possible come from the same place where our spirit resides. “My artworks should be much more than just something beautiful to the eye. Ultimately, they are there to nourish the soul and torment the mind.”
Her love for painting, and especially for painting peaceful Buddhas, led her to explore Buddhism everywhere.
