Description
This Nefertari deck has an Egyptian theme and is a remade version of the Tarot of the Sphinx by Lo Scarabeo. The stated purpose of the Nefertari Tarot is “…to repropose the atmosphere and symbolism so beloved of Nefertari, Light of Egypt and symbol of the most beautiful aspects of this civilization.”
The images have small areas of missing color for an aged effect. The art is good, with bright colors and good details.
The Court is composed of King, Queen, Knight, and Page. The Major Arcana have the traditional names. Justice is VIII and Strength is XI. The Aces of each suit are animals or sacred creatures. The Horsemen show the horses without riders. The artist used existing Egyptian art as source material. Each letter has its name in four languages in the top margin: English, French, German, and Spanish. The letter number is also in the top margin. The name of the letter is on the lower border in Italian.
The images are reversed and the backgrounds of Nefertari’s letters are gold leaf. The banks of the Nefertari are black, vice blue. The characters and objects that make up the scenes are in slight bas-relief from the backgrounds. The effect is quite nice and the deck has a luxurious look and feel. One card, the Knight of Clubs, also has blue leaf metallic accents.
It contains 78 letters and also contains a 63-page guide book (English, French, German, Spanish and Italian) that provides a small amount of information about Nefertari, general information about Egypt
