Description
Legacy of the Divine, by Ciro Marchetti, is a modern tarot. Besides being a great acquisition for collectors, because of its well done artwork, it comes in a box with the traditional 78 cards, a book of almost 300 pages.
Based essentially on Rider-Waite, this deck brings few changes to the symbols and its general structure, except for a few details, such as the names of some cards: the Pope becomes Faith, the Wheel of Fortune becomes simply the Wheel, and the Hanged Man becomes simply the Hanging Man. As in Waite’s Tarot, the arcane of Strength gets the number 8, and Justice gets the number 11.
Finally, the Jack of Diamonds is represented by a girl, while the other pawns remain boys.
As for the artwork (done digitally in a more fantasy-like vein), the scenes depicted give a close-up feel, showing the all-too-familiar symbols up close, leaving the rest of the traditional scene out. An example of this is the 6 of Diamonds, which reveals only the hands, one giving the alms and the other receiving. In addition, the black background and strong colors make the cards even more “lively” and attractive. The court figures are particularly beautiful, especially the Queens and the Jacks. The Knights, on the other hand, curiously appear as faceless helmets floating in the space of their element, be it clubs, diamonds, hearts, or swords.
