Desert Sage (Artemisia Tridentata) covers a large part of the high desert and valleys of the West US.
This aromatic shrub thrives in the wind-exposed deserts of the Santa Fe/Taos area. It has thin, branched leaves and a light brown color.
Desert Sage has a warm herbaceous aroma that is a bit spicy (think bay leaves or mint tea). It is used for cleaning and purification, protection and inner strength. It is said to bring pleasant thoughts and relieves headaches and anxiety.
You can burn the Desert Sage torch during meditations before doing readings or other forms of divination and before, during, and after rituals.
In addition to being burned, Desert Sage is often preserved, used or kept with sacred objects to protect them from negative influences. Native American tradition states that wherever this kind of sage is, evil spirits cannot enter. The desert Sage torch is used to keep sacred objects such as tubes or peyote wands (feathers) safe from negative energies. In the Sioux nation, the sacred pipe is kept in a bundle with desert sage branches.
Leaves containing camphor are also used medicinally for coughs, colds, headaches, stomach aches, fevers and to relieve pain during childbirth.
It can be used in any Shamnica ceremony, especially those using master healing teaching plants such as Ayahuasca and Iboga.
About Desert Sage
This Sage grows in the arid western deserts. Desert Sage grows at altitudes between 3,000 and 10,000 feet above sea level. It is also known by the official title, Artemisia Tridentata. Artemisia (air-tay-MIS-ee-a) is from Artemisia, the Greek virgin goddess of hunting and desert nature. Tridentata (tri-den-TAH-ta) means “three teeth”, in reference to the three lobes on the tips of the sage’s leaves.
The great Desert Sage often grows in habitats such as snow-capped cold elevations of central and southern Utah among juniper or pine trees. This plant is extremely resilient and can grow with little water in sand conditions with temperatures above 110 degrees, surviving winters and deep snow at temperatures of -28 degrees Celsius. This says a lot about this plant and all the energy that is released by burning a Desert Sage torch.
Because they are natural torches and unique in their shape and essence, they may present small differences in the photo
